What Healing Having is Doing in the Midst of COVID-19
As COVID-19 continues to stay with us, and we continue to learn how to live with it, here are some of the ways we have managed services in the past and going forward. Our main goal in all of this has been to focus on providing as much consistency of therapy as possible for our clients, while doing all we can to keep our clients and staff safe. We will continue to update this page with the latest COVID-19 information as it relates to our services.
For the safety of our clients and staff, and to limit the spread of COVID-19, we closed our clinics the week of March 16. We suspended all in-person services and worked through that week to create telehealth therapy services for our clients.
On Monday, March 23 we launched our telehealth ABA Therapy Parent Training. The timing coincided with the Michigan Stay Home Order. A few days later we rolled out telehealth Speech & Occupational Therapies and Counseling. These services are being covered by most insurance plans. If someone’s insurance plan does not cover these services delivered via telehealth, we have private pay options, with discounted rates for Speech and OT. Our recent telehealth satisfaction survey revealed that 90% of clients are very satisfied or satisfied with their services.
ABA Parent Training is providing critical support for families. Parents are learning how to help their child, empowering them with tools and strategies. From potty training, to picky eating, to social skill development to reducing problem behaviors, parents essentially have a BCBA in their back pocket during this time of shelter in place.
As the COVID-19 cases declined and restrictions slowly lifted, we worked to reopen our clinics on June 2, 2020 for ABA therapy. We incorporated the guidance and recommendations outlined in the State of Michigan’s Safe Start Plan. As a result of these recommendations, we have a variety of service options. We continued with telehealth Speech and Occupational Therapies to keep the number of people in our clinics as low as possible. In the summer of 2021 we began bringing back in-person Occupational Therapy and some in-person Speech Therapy. We continue to follow safety measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 including:
- Physical distancing measures: we are limiting the number of clients and staff in the clinics. Areas are marked for each client and their ABA Therapist to work in and limited use of multipurpose rooms.
- More extensive sanitizing measures in clinic: including a large toy check out system, as well as regular hand washing protocols.
- PPE: staff continue to wear face masks inside and some clients, based on parent preference.
- Health screening process both for staff and clients.

ABA Parent Training has always been an integral part of our ABA services. But during the lockdown in 2020 it provided critical support for families. And we have continued with this telehealth model for ease of scheduling and saftey. Parents are learning how to help their child, empowering them with tools and strategies. From potty training, to picky eating, to social skill development, to reducing problem behaviors, parents essentially have a BCBA in their back pocket.
